Welcome to the Transportation Directory, this site has been developed to give visitors access to those organisations that carry produce and products by road, around New Zealand. This may range from the "Big Rigs" of Linehaul operators including livestock carriers and refrigeration transport down to smaller vehicles like those operated by courier drivers, as well as air, rail and shipping transportation companies. We expect the directory to became extensive as time and interest gathers. Below you will find links to NZ Associations that represent this trade sector.

Road Transport Forum New Zealand is the national industry organisation representing the interests of road transport businesses.
It was formed in July 1997 by the amalgamation of the New Zealand Road Transport Association and the Owner Carriers' Association of New Zealand at a national level to form one organisation representing the road freight industry.
Road Transport Forum incorporates the five regions of the New Zealand Road Transport Association (NZRTA) National Road Carriers (NRC) and the Combined Owner-Driver Association SI (CODA). Operators are members of the Forum through belonging to one of its member associations there is no direct membership.
The Forum represents owner drivers, fleet operators, in-house road transport operators and suppliers of goods and services to the road transport industry.
Road freight transport is a diverse and wide ranging industry. Within the various sectors there are general freight carriers and specialists in logging, refrigerated transport, livestock, furniture, liquids, and so on. There are metropolitan carriers, others who work the provinces and those in linehaul.
No matter what the sector, size of company or where it is situated, all road freighters have common business interests. The Forum is designed to meet these needs and will give added value to its member businesses and the industry by:
| Maintaining a united industry voice | |
| Providing increased resources through greater membership | |
| Improving members services | |
| Increasing the industry's credibility at a national level. |
The Forum and its predecessors have protected and promoted the interests of members at a local and national level since 1924. It also maintains links with research and overseas road transport groups in order to keep members up to date with latest developments, and it provides business information and advice to members.
About 5,300 road carriers operate "for hire and/or reward" throughout New Zealand. These carriers run about 18,000 trucks in a total fleet of 76,700 heavy commercial vehicles.
The industry employs 21,650 people, is the country's eighth largest industry employer, and is worth more than $2.5 billion a year to the gross national product.
Operators affiliated to the Forum operate over 85 percent of all "hire/reward" trucks in the country.
