Welcome to the Professional
Services Directory, this site has been developed to
give visitors access to those professionals involved in the construction and service
industries. This directory will contain (when complete) contact details for Engineers,
Archtitecs, Planners, Project Managers and Surveyors (both site surveys and quantity
surveyors). These people pay a vital role within the construction sector and although in
many organisations this work is performed "in house" there are occasions where
specialists are required. Below you will find links to NZ
Associations that represent these trade sectors.

Surveyors fulfil an important role in the land
title system of New Zealand. It is likely that you will seldom engage the services of a
surveyor, unlike other professional advisors whose assistance you may often obtain.
As land professionals, registered surveyors spend four years obtaining
a Bachelor of Surveying Degree or its equivalent. They ensure that land measurements are
accurate and that boundaries are marked and visible. Surveyors can confidently reproduce
boundary marks erased by time. Surveyors are the only professionals qualified to take
accurate land measurements, and to fix precise positions. Surveyors are resource managers,
and can ensure an application under the Resource Management Act is correctly presented.
You may engage a
surveyor for a number of reasons, including:
Any transaction concerning land
Siting a house, garage or fence
Developing or subdividing land
Undertaking environmental studies
Preparing maps
Planning farm water supply or irrigation
Interpreting district planning schemes
A dispute over land boundaries occurs
A topographical or contour survey is required
Registering rights of ways and other easements over land
Registering leases of land
Expert testimony concerning land measurement is required

The first professional engineering body in New Zealand, the
Institute of Local Government Engineers of New Zealand, was formed in 1912. Towards the
end of 1913 however, the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, thought to be more
representative of the engineering profession was introduced, and the two eventually merged
in 1914. The Society continued to grow steadily over the next twenty years until 1937 when
the increase in non-civil engineers within the membership began to demand recognition in
the form of a name change. Therefore, after much debate at several annual conferences, the
name of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers was changed to the New Zealand
Institution of Engineers. From there, the present name was adopted in 1982.
The Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ)
now represents professional and para-professional engineers from all disciplines in New
Zealand. Click on the logo above to visit their web site and find further information.
The Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand Inc. represents the
consulting industry for engineering and related professions.
ACENZ members possess professional qualifications and considerable
practical experience. Members must not have any direct or indirect interest in any
commercial or contracting business which might compromise the impartiality of their advice
to clients. They are bound by a Code of Ethics.
ACENZ was established to improve the environment in which members work,
by: representing members and participating in the work of Government and other
authorities; setting and maintaining professional standards; providing appropriate
business guidelines, procedures and documentation; and helping members to enhance their
business skills and professional development.
