Welcome to the Agri Rural Directory, this site has been developed to give visitors access to contractors and suppliers that work in the agricultural and rural sectors of New Zealand. This may range from stock and station agents, fencing contractors, weed sprayers, Ag-air companies, contract cropping, home kill, track and dam construction... the list will hopefully become very large as time and interest gathers.

Below you will find links to NZ Associations that represent this trade sector.

The Rural Associated Contractors' Federation of New Zealand

The Rural Associated Contractors' Federation (RACF) came into being in 1995 and celebrated its independent existence with a very successful annual conference at Picton. +

For the previous seven years the organisation had existed as the Rural Associated Contractors' Section of the Contractors' Federation, having been formed in 1988 by an amalgamation of the federation's agricultural contractors' and chemical applicators' sections.

The RACF has taken all these changes in its stride, per- haps because rural folk are resilient and self-reliant by nature.

The RACF has not entirely severed its links with the Contractors' Federation: some contractors belong to both organisations; the RACF is still based at the Contractors' Federation national office; and rural sector training and qualifications under the New Zealand Qualifications Authority framework is being set up through the contracting industry training organisation.

The RACF is administered by a part-time manager and is governed by a nationally elected president, vice-president and committee of five. Activities undertaken by the RACF's council on behalf of members include:

Liaison with the Ministers of Agriculture, Environment and Transport, with Transit New Zealand and local authorities.
Liaison with allied organisations:
New Zealand Groundspread Fertiliser Association,
Federated Farmers.
NZ Chemical Industry Council,
Pest Control Association,
Open Polytechnic (for chemical applicator training courses).
Pesticides Board.
New Zealand Agrichemical Education Trust.
Monitoring legislation which affects rural contractors. This has included: overweight permits and overwidth machinery; Resource Management Act; new organisms legislation; and Health and Safety in Employment.
Participation in the National Fieldays at Mystery Creek as well as various regional and chemical demonstration fieldays.
Training of contractors. This continues to be addressed with the existing chemical applicator registration scheme, previously administered through the Pesticides Board and now through the Agrichemical Education Trust. The section is represented both on the trust and the contracting industry training organisation to ensure adequate recognition is given to training for rural contractors.
Regional seminars and meetings. These enable rural contractors to be kept informed of developments in their areas, including regional council policies relative to rural contracting.
